The old adage “If we educate a boy, we educate one person. If we educate a girl, we educate a family – and a whole nation.” is not a western proverb, but actually an African one. So you’d think that educating a girl would be priority no 1 at all levels from the family to the nation. In Tanzania, like in many African countries, the rhetoric does now permeate every development agenda, but the social environment is still lagging behind and a girl able and willing to pursue her education will have to climb a few mountains; some cultural and some financial. At least we can help with the financial one while the cultural one slowly but surely melts away as more and more girls get educated and prove to their family, communities and very importantly to their children that there is all to gain from educating a girl.There is a vast amount of literature that hail the benefits of educating a girl and you can find out about some of them in our girls education page. We also have films on this website that are just jaw dropping in their conviction, please take the time to watch them.
Our sponsorship programme allows you to give what you want, when you want, regulary or as a one off. Your gift is added to our sponsorship pot and then distributed through a grant system. The bigger the pot, the more girls get to benefit from at least one of our 5 grants.
Sometimes all a girl needs to carry on with her education is for her fees to be paid, while for another it is a uniform or simply the comfort and energy of a meal during the day. Others need all five grants to cover accommodation and books too. With a pot we can be flexible and spread your gifts around more. Our system is more akin to that operated in the Western World and we think a much fairer and less patronising one than a traditional sponsorship.
